Have you heard of soroban? It is a type of abacus developed in Japan, and in turn derives from the Chinese suan pan. Even today, when everyone has a pocket calculator, it is still widely used in Japan. Almost all Japanese elementary schools teach students how to use it, as it is believed that knowledge of the soroban helps students develop a feeling for numbers and arithmetic.

These chopsticks and chopstick rest are produced in Banshu in Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, a district famous for soroban production. 75% of all soroban made in Japan are produced in this area. The techniques used in soroban production are applied to the manufacture of these chopsticks and chopstick rest.

The chopsticks are available to you in red, yellow or green so please choose the color that suits you best. They are made from natural wood, with a food-grade polyester-urethane finish. The beads are made of bamboo.
